Did You know Your Neighbor Overdosed Last Night?

The stigma associated with drug use has hindered the implementation of life-saving treatment policies in Connecticut, preventing individuals struggling with addiction from accessing the support and resources they need for recovery.

There is a much-needed demand for Recovery Support Specialists (RSS) in Connecticut, as they use their personal recovery experiences to help individuals struggling with substance or alcohol abuse regain control of their lives; however, there is a lack of communication between RSS, emergency services, and law enforcement during overdose incidents, leaving victims without proper care or support after initial emergency treatment. Opiate abuse continues to fuel crime, burden healthcare systems, and impact schools and families, with the relapse rate for opiate addiction being the highest among all drugs, highlighting the need for better coordination between RSS and other first responders, as well as implementing effective programs in schools and increasing public awareness to combat this devastating epidemic.

If you or someone you know is suffering from an alcohol or substance use disorder contact SAMHSA’s National Helpline 1-800-662-HELP.
